These gardens are spectacular testimony to a family with a dream. Read about the history of this family and their dreams. In 1929 Herman Ohme and his bride Ruth purchased forty acres of land for an orchard. Included was a craggy, dry, desolate, rock-strewn bluff with a breathtaking view of the snow-capped Cascade Mountains and the shimmering Columbia River valley. The Ohmes loved to stand on the bluff and dream of flourishing alpine meadows, shimmering pools and shady evergreen pathways where the hot, relentless summer sun allowed only sage and scrub desert growth. They set their minds on achieving that dream. The majestic Cascade Mountains provide a spectacular backdrop as you discover the many paths though the garden enjoying the breathtaking views and magical atmosphere. There is a small fee to enjoy the gardens that supports keeping this local treasure open to the public. Also once a year you can stroll through the gardens sampling exquisite foods provided by restaurants of this region and taste the outstanding wines from local wineries. Enjoy the scenary of the North Cascades in Lake Chelan and visit Stahekin which is a small town at the end of the 50 mile long lake. You can take the Lady of the Lake cruise up to Stahekin and take the float plane back. In the evening feast on an elegant dinner Dinner that will start at 6:00 pm at the beautiful St. Laurent Winery in Malaga while you enjoy live music and enjoy wine tasting from the wineries you visited!
